Backpack Program

Feeding Kids When School’s Out

Since 2010, Our Neighbors’ Place Backpack Program—run in partnership with Ezekiel Lutheran Church and the River Falls School District—has provided weekend meals to students when other resources, like free and reduced-price school lunches, aren’t available. The program offers backpacks filled with nutritious, kid-friendly groceries to students in grades 4K–12 whose families are experiencing financial hardship. In 2024, we provided over 4,200 bags—totaling more than 35,000 pounds of food.

“They also get a birthday bag when their child has a birthday. It means so much to them."”

Helping Hands Fund

Help When There’s Nowhere Else to Turn

Launched in 2024, this fund provides financial assistance for essential needs that fall outside the scope of other nonprofits. We help cover gaps such as: vital documents, vehicle registration, work clothing, phones/minutes, daycare assistance, gas card, etc.

“Without this help, I would’ve had to quit school and shut down my business.”

Transitional Housing

A Bridge from Homelessness to Stability

Our 4-unit Transitional Housing building provides families experiencing homelessness with a stable place to live while they work toward permanent housing. Residents pay 30% of their income in rent and receive ongoing case management. Since 2016, 21 families have graduated from the program into permanent housing.

“You believed in me when nobody else did... I’ll never let you down.”
